Cowboy Logic not just a gimmicky name for my teaching program, it’s my way of life. I believe in a simple approach to life and to horses. Both require balance and effective communication. The ultimate goal for my relationship with the horse is to develop a trusting, willing and confident partner. In 2019 I got married and moved to Elizabethtown, Kentucky after living 34 years in and around Council Grove, Kansas. I have spent many years developing as a horseman by working on ranches, training horses, competing in various horse disciplines and instructing people in riding and horsemanship. I have travelled over much of the United States, as well as Europe, Australia and New Zealand conducting horsemanship clinics. I am passionate about teaching and learning from my students, both human and horses. I take pride in being able to help people to better read and develop a feel for their horse so they can become stronger, more confident leaders. I was born in Texas where I learned about working, ranching, and cowboying from my granddad and the ranchers he worked with. Life required me to leave Texas and move to Kansas when I was 13 years old. I begged cattlemen around my hometown to let me ride and cowboy in their outfits. I continued to learn and grow my reputation as a hand. I worked for a few ranches for several years, honing my cowboy skills. I wrestled, played football, and rodeoed through high school and college. I continued to ranch and chase rodeo buckles until 2012. I stepped away from cowboying once, to deliver milk. That was a miserable, long six years of my life! Once I quit delivering milk, I promised myself, never again would I make my living without horses. My wife, Laura and I are continuing the business I started in Kansas and developing our horse business in Kentucky. We are in the process of turning our farm into a horse training, riding, and breeding facility. I continue to travel and teach horsemanship clinics around the country and abroad, start and train as many horses as my schedule will allow and compete in Extreme Cowboy Racing. Laura and I share six amazing children and one granddaughter. I have competed in several equine disciplines over the years. I have been the WRCA World Champion Bronc rider as well as WRCA Top Hand. I have been an American Royal Colt Starting Champion and Ultimate Equestrian Colt Starting Champion. In 13 years, I have won 6 Extreme Cowboy Association World Champion buckles and 4 Reserve World Champion buckles in the Pro, Futurity and Mustang classes. I have also competed in a couple of Mustang Heritage Foundation make-overs, several times at the Calgary Stampede’s Cowboy Up Challenge, as well as Ranch Horse of America events. Being a cowboy has been a passion and a dream fulfilled for me. I have been blessed to live my life as a nurturer, confidence builder and caregiver for these amazing animals that I love as well as help people achieve true horsemanship with a confident and logical approach – Cowboy Logic.
